Temmuz 2008 / July 2008
London.
Photos taken from a steamy cab window on a very rainy day. This is mid-July, mind you.

We didn’t actually tour the whole city in a cab, you know. But we got so soaked earlier that day that we had to take it. And it was a well-spent 7 quid. (Yeah. “Quid”. : ) )
So yeah, there was a lot of rain. Also, lots of CCTV cameras.

The following are my “I went to the Tate Modern” shots.

There was a photo exhibition in Tate called Street & Studio. Great stuff mostly. But what stuck with me most were these street shots taken by Walker Evans that I hadn’t seen before. The series is called “Labour Anonymous”, where he took low angle photos of pedestrians in Detroit, walking and going to work. Me praising Walker Evans must sound quite stupid (as if he needs it) but I love love love the guy ever since I saw his New York subway photos – which he took in the 1930’s for god’s sake (and they’re YET to be topped by any other subway photos that I saw so far). Anyway, I loved this series so much I copied it. Here is my humble take. (From the inside of a pub in Camden.)

And look who we ran into in the pub. Riaz! You all know him from http://riazm.tumblr.com and http://spaghettijunctionstyle.tumblr.com/ . Well, you should.

I had to take a photo of him with the Bessa, a camera which he practically made me buy. (And I don’t regret it one bit.) Of course I asked him to shoot me with it as well. (Cosmo tip: If you have a good photographer on the table, ask him to take a photo of you. It may be vain but don’t think of it like that. You’re essentially doing it for the grandchildren. Evladiyelik.)

Naturally, we couldn’t leave it at just the classy Bessa photos. We needed the tourist shots as well. Taken by… El Rey.

Notwithtanding the above, El Rey is actually a great photographer. Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

Just how many photos of self can you squeeze in a blog entry about London. How far can you take the grandchildren excuse. It’s truly the Libra curse. Let’s redeem ourselves with one last street shot. Camden again.

Right then. Cheers.
